    Sopapilla Mix

    Our Sopapilla & Beignet mix makes a dough that is rolled flat, cut into your favorite shape and fried, creating a “pillow-like” puffed pastry that is typical of New Orleans and the southwestern US.
    Just add water and oil.

  • YOU WILL NEED:

    WATER: 1/2 Cup + 1 Tablespoon (130 ml) BOILING

     COOKING OIL

  • DIRECTIONS:

    1. COMBINE mix, boiling water and 1 Tablespoon
        (15 ml) cooking oil; stir vigorously until mix forms
        a dough. Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface.

    2. KNEAD dough (using hands) on a floured surface
        2 - 3 minutes, until dough becomes elastic; add
        flour as needed to form a soft, smooth dough that
        is no longer sticky. Form dough into a ball, coat
         with oil or cooking spray and place into a clean bowl.

    3. COVER bowl with a hot damp cloth, let rise for
        30 minutes.

    4. ROLL /PAT dough on a lightly floured surface;
        1/8 - 1/4 inch(3 - 6 mm) thick. Cut into 2 inch
        (5 cm) squares / triangles with a knife, pizza
        cutter or use your favorite shaped cookie cutter.

    5. FRY in 1 - 2 inches oil (375° F / 190° C)
        a few pieces at a time, approximately 1 minute
        per side or until golden brown. Remove and
        drain on absorbent paper.
        Serve IMMEDIATELY with honey or powdered sugar.

    Serve HOT with your choice of the following: Cherries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Jelly, Jam, Molasses, Maple Syrup or Chocolate Syrup.

  • TASTY VARIATIONS:

    Can be served as a dessert or entrée:

     Dessert – cut slit in one end of fried sopapilla and
      fill with your choice of fruit or pie / fruit filling.
    Dessert – drizzle with honey or syrup, brush with
      melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and
      sugar or dust with powdered sugar.

    Entrée – cut slit in one end of fried sopapilla and
      fill with taco seasoned meat, refried beans and
      cheese.

    Serve HOT with your choice of the following: Cherries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Jelly, Jam, Molasses, Maple Syrup or Chocolate Syrup.
